Dear Sisters and Friends
Easter blessings to each one of you! As we celebrate the joy and hope of the Risen Lord on this Easter Monday, we are saddened by the unexpected news of the death of our Holy Father Pope Francis. Our joyful, celebrative mood soon turned into a sense of great loss and grief for this noble soul, who served the Church and humanity with the heart of a true shepherd. May Pope Francis rest in God’s eternal peace and may his legacy of life and mission live on…
The last message of Pope Francis on Easter Sunday was one of Peace and reconciliation, giving hope to those who live in hopeless situations. He mentioned all the countries in war and conflict, praying for the suffering people. He prayed especially for the people of Myanmar, where our Sisters are in mission for over a hundred years; a country now torn by civil war and recently suffering from the aftermath of a terrible earthquake.
Sister Margaret Maung and I visited Myanmar a few days before the earthquake and had already seen the struggles and sufferings of people. It was heartbreaking, again to see the pain and loss brought about by the terrible earthquake. The RNDMs are out in the affected area, volunteering to support the victims of this great disaster through aids, listening to the people’s pain and loss of family members, and pastoral care. Most people are living on the streets, being afraid of the after shocks. There is much to be done…
We are deeply grateful to all the provinces and friends who came forward to support the earthquake victims. Great are their needs and many are suffering without shelter, medicine, food and other basic necessities. We continue to seek your support to be in solidarity with our less fortunate brothers and sisters of our world. Thank You and God bless you!
